Location: Philadelphia, PA (Rittenhouse Square)
The Request: New home construction (5 homes, 6 stories, approx. 5500 sq feet). Builder wanted a SMART tech solution that 1) allowed for new buyers to select upgrade options, and 2) wasn’t so “techie” that it scared away a bunch of potential buyers. We were challenged to create a SMART home solution for a wide range of potential buyers. It needed to be something that spoke to buyers with zero interest in SMART tech and just want their stuff to work, buyers that wanted to go crazy with all things SMART, and everyone in between.
The Solution: We started by establishing a Tech Backbone for the home that was basic, but also flexible and easily upgradable for future advances in tech. A centralized data center was stood up, including all necessary low voltage and electrical runs. Additional wiring runs for cameras, data, TVs, speakers, etc. were made and left behind the walls for potential future use. The home network (firewall, switch, interior wireless access points) and 2 exterior security cameras were integrated. All TV locations in the home (existing and new) were set up to be wired directly to the data center for a seamless streaming experience. Ecobee thermostats, Ring doorbells and Schalge door locks were all used as part of the basic initial SMART tech package. SONOS sound was used for the whole house audio in three separate zones, and Brilliant Tech was the SMART home platform selected.
